Enjoy a Lime Margarita blended just right!

Compliments will get you everything! When guests compliment my recipes I’m charmed; when they tell me my Margarita’s are the best, they get a second round and, well, I just had to teach them how to make them. Three of our guests recently asked me to teach them how I make my Lime Margarita’s and I decided to share with y’all.

Lime Margarita

Although I will make smaller batches I think the best flavour is when I make a blender full of lime margaritas.

Lime Margarita

Squeeze 12 -14 key limes (you can use other limes but key limes are the best, in my opionion) into the blender (you’ll want about 1/2 cup of lime juice; depending on your love of limes you’ll want more or less or exactly 1/2 cup)

Use one jigger (2 ounces) to measure.

  • 1 jigger simple syrup (see below) (2 ounces or less if you prefer less sweet)
  • 1 jigger’s cointreau (2 ounces) – some prefer grand marnier; use what you enjoy.
  • 2 jiggers tequila (4 ounces)
  • As above; 1/2 cup of lime juice

Fill the blender with ice.

Pour the above mixture over the ice.

Blend to chop ice and then blend to smoothy-licious-ness!!

Salt the top of the glass, pour in your creation and ENJOY!

Of course; when its Gauc-o-clock (kudos to our daughter Kate for coming up with that ditty!) the marg’s must accompany chips and guacamole!

Lime Margarita

A friend made these for me… so far I haven’t had the time but aren’t they pretty!

Making Simple syrup

Take your fave sugar and heat together equal amounts of sugar and water and then use in the Lime Margarita recipe above.

3 types of sugar we experimented with:

Brown Cane syrup is the favourite but changes the colour. White can sugar can be used as well.

Monkfruit sweetener was new to me, a guest brought as a gift. I really liked it as I don’t prefer much sweetness.Lime Margarita, simple syrup

Coconut sugar, simple syrup was well liked by all but it truly changed the colour which was weird.

Lime Margarita

February 22nd, National Margarita Day; so here’s a little history lesson. Thanks Carl Drake.

There is no solid proof who “invented” the Margarita. The most accepted of all stories is that the Margarita was invented in October 1941, at Hussong’s Cantina in Ensenada, Mexico, by bartender Don Carlos Orozco. One slow afternoon, Don Carlos was experimenting with mixing new drinks when a prestigious visitor arrived: Margarita Henkel, the daughter of a German ambassador, who lived with her husband Roy Parodi near the city in Rancho Hamilton. Don Carlos offered the drink to Margarita, and named it after her for being the first person to taste it. He concocted a mixture of equal parts tequila, orange liqueur and lime, served over ice in a salt-rimmed glass.
